PRESCRIPTION WRITER SIGNATURES (User's Manual, pg. 702)

Version 4.1 lets you print your signature on each prescription. Let's see how to do this. You first need to create a file which contains an image of your signature. There are a couple of ways to accomplish this:

feb02-01.gif (8321 bytes)

1. If you have a scanner, write your signature on a piece of paper, then scan the image into your computer using your scanning software.

2. If you don't have a scanner, you can write your signature with a mouse using Windows Paint.

a. In Windows, press Start\Programs\Accessories\Paint.

b. Draw your signature using the mouse.

c. Click on the rectangular Select tool.

d. Draw a rectangle around your signature.

e. Press Edit\Copy to.

f. Type in the name of the file you wish to use.

Even if you use a scanner, you should inspect the image file that your scanner creates. If the file contains a lot of white space (e.g. an entire page of paper, with your signature on only a small part of the page), you need to use a tool like Windows Paint or an image editor such as Windows Imaging (Start\Programs\Accessories\Imaging) to crop the image to just the portion where your signature appears. Otherwise, the Prescription Writer will try to put the entire white page into the small signature line, and the signature itself won't appear.

Now that you have the signature file, all you have to do is press Write\Prescriptions\ Options and fill in the name of the file you just created in the Signature file box. If you can't remember where the file is located, you can press the Browse button to locate it. Note that each user has a different signature file.

Only physicians should assign a signature file. You also should not share the name of your signature file with other users, or they could use your signature file to forge your signature on a printed prescription.

USING THE RE-PARSER (User's Manual, pgs. 702-703)

The Re-Parser lets you parse notes that have previously been stored in the Visiter. This is handy if you have previously stored notes without parsing and now decide you want these notes to be parsed. This can be especially valuable if you had decided to batch import documents (such as previous notes from another source) and didn't parse them at the time but now want these notes parsed. There is really no need to re-parse notes that have already previously been parsed. This feature could also be used to automate a chart review for a series of charts from a particular provider.

Let's re-parse all of the notes for Dr. McFadden's patients from 1/1/2000 to 12/31/2000:

1. Press Tools\Re-Parser.

2. Go to the Name box. For the Last Name, type in ANY and press Ok.

3. Provide the Master Password. Only Master Users can re-parse more than one patient at a time.

4. Select Beverly McFadden as the Provider. (Note that you can choose ALL here if you had wanted to Re-Parse patients of all providers).

5. Enter a Start Date of 1/1/2000 and an End Date of 12/31/2000.

6. Accept all choices in the Type of Document box, unless for some reason you wish to pick only certain ones. In that case, hold down the <Ctrl> key and click your mouse on each choice you wish to toggle from including to excluding or vice versa until you have chosen the types you wish to use.

7. If you want to be asked about each parsing question, check the Verify box. Otherwise, leave it unchecked. If you choose to Verify, the Parser will use whatever method of Parsing you have chosen in System\Parser Options. For example, if you check the Quick Summary Option, then each visit will appear in the Parser Quick Summary for you to respond to before moving on to the next visit. The items that are checked by default on the Quick Summary are determined by the Summary Options. If you uncheck the Quick Summary, you will see the questions one by one as the Parser encounters information in the note.

8. Press Ok to launch the Re-Parser.
